Stage Door Blog Comments

One of my favorite broadway videos I got to watch on this website was the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" performance. Although this video wasn't the full experience, I was blown away by only watching the two minute clips taken throughout the various scenes and pieced together to form this short trailer. I was truly amazed and taken a back from the exquisiteness of the sceneries this performance displayed. The scene where Charlie walks the streets was displayed perfectly with the rundown appearance and gloomy feel you take away when watching the movie. I was especially taken a back when the scene displayed the taste testing room, where it appears to look like a valley of grass, hills, and trees, but everything is edible. This scene captured the true scene which is hard to display on stage, but this team managed to do it exquisitely! The colors of the lighting within the scenes were bright and colorful, filling the spectrum and having the audience truly experience the "candy shop experience." The characters were interpreted very well and the actors truly got to be one with the character. The overall ambiance of this performance was truly displayed with intricate details to really capture the story and make it as realistic as possible.
The second of my favorite would be a broadway experience that I had the pleasure of witnessing first hand in NYC, called "Wicked." I sat up close and personal to the stage where I could see every ounce of detail to its fullest extent. The settings, the sound effects, the costumes, the lighting, everything that gets put into a performance was beyond up to par in this performance. They managed to  incorporate the aspect of each scene proceeding to the next so smoothly without any awkward pauses that tend to occur with live performances. With such little props used, they managed to incorporate the scenery as one of their biggest props and keep the sceneries very simple. The actors were able to fill the space of the stage with their energy, which made the lack of props and open space not a disadvantage against the performance as a whole.
